WHAT IS DIATOMACEOUS EARTH

Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is mined from deposits around the world and ever increasing in popularity thanks to its versatile uses in industry and agriculture and its environmentally sustainable nature.

Millions of years in the making, Diatomaceous Earth, also known as Diatomite, is a naturally occurring fossilized remains of tiny aquatic organisms called diatoms – microscopic algae which after dying and forming outer shells made of silica, settle on the bottom of sea or lake beds. From here they will fossilize into a soft chalky rock like substance.

While small and a complex framework, biologists consider diatoms to be one of the most important groups of basic organisms; all other aquatic life to some degree depends on them.

DE consists of billions of minute silica frameworks. The frustules are strong and support intricate internal frameworks with maximum void space. The small size of the open pores gives DE excellent particulate holding and removal properties for filtration.

Key Characteristics of Diatomaceous Earth

  • Natural Composition: Diatomaceous Earth is 100% natural and primarily made of silica.
  • Microscopic Structure: The powder consists of tiny, sharp-edged particles which can help absorb moisture and action a mechanical mode of pest control.
  • Variety Of Uses: From household applications to industrial uses, Diatomaceous Earth is valued for its versatility, including as a natural form of pest control, plant growth, and animal dusting.

Our source brings high quality properties including:

  • Powder containing 80-90% Amorphous Silica, highly beneficial for plant growth.
  • Origin from Freshwater deposits, preferred in the industry due to being richer in silicon dioxide.
  • Tiny Particle Size – Large surface area
  • Porosity (35-65%)
